Hop Kiln Conversion, Sunrise Valley

The owners of this old hop kiln wanted to convert it into holiday accommodation for their family.

Keeping true to the rural industrial ethic the conversion uses readily available materials – plywood, gangnail trusses, radiata posts and rough sawn weatherboards to create a new life for a piece of our rural history.

Magnificently sited on a ridge looking down across the hop gardens below to Mt Arthur the original building is beautifully proportioned and well suited to the 4 living spaces created within. The posts in the hop gardens below are echoed in the supports to the shade sails off the deck.
